How faceless affiliate marketing works
- Pick a niche with products people buy: tools, gadgets, books, software, kitchen gear, fitness equipment.
- Join affiliate programs for those products: a platform program (YouTube Shopping, TikTok Shop) or a brand's own program.
- Make videos that help the viewer decide: "3 tools that…", "X vs Y", "what I'd buy for…", short how-tos.
- Put the link or product tag where the platform allows it, and disclose the relationship.
- Track clicks and sales, then make more of what converts.
The video does the selling, so it doesn't matter whether there's a face in it. What matters is trust: honest comparisons, real downsides and a clear reason to click.
YouTube Shopping affiliate program
YouTube lets eligible creators tag products from other brands in their content and earn commission on sales. According to YouTube Help, your channel must:
- be in the YouTube Partner Program and meet its subscriber threshold
- be based in Argentina, Brazil, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Mexico, the Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, the US or Vietnam
- not be a music channel or Official Artist Channel
- not be set as Made for Kids, or have a significant number of videos set that way
In countries where YouTube offers its expanded Partner Program, Shopping is one of the features you can unlock with 500 subscribers, 3 public uploads in the last 90 days, and either 3,000 watch hours in 12 months or 3 million Shorts views in 90 days. Ads revenue still needs the 1,000-subscriber tier.
How you're paid: brands set their own commission rates. YouTube pays commissions through AdSense for YouTube 60 to 120 days after the purchase, to allow for returns, and a returned product reverses the commission.
What's not allowed: YouTube's affiliate links are only for traffic from YouTube. Sending traffic from other websites, automated redirects, click injection or cookie stuffing breaks YouTube's Terms of Service. If a video includes sponsorships or endorsements, follow YouTube's branded content policies.
TikTok Shop affiliate (US)
TikTok Shop pays creators commission on products sold through their shoppable videos and LIVEs. Under TikTok Shop's US Creator Eligibility Policy (dated 25 September 2026), a US affiliate creator must:
- be 18 or older and based in the US
- have at least 1,000 followers
- not be a political or government account
- pass identity verification, which is required to withdraw commissions
New affiliates with fewer than 5,000 followers join the Affiliate Creator Pilot Program for at least 30 days: up to 3 shoppable videos a day and 3 shoppable LIVEs a week, only products with a Shop Performance Score of 95% or higher, and no campaigns. You graduate at 5,000 followers after 30 days. Rules differ outside the US, so check TikTok Shop's page for your country.
Other affiliate programs
Many brands and software companies run their own programs with their own links. Before you promote one, read its terms: the commission rate, how long its tracking cookie lasts, when it pays and what's not allowed. Promote only what fits your niche and what you'd recommend without the commission.
What converts in faceless Shorts
- Lead with the problem, not the product: "Your phone photos look flat? Try this."
- Show, don't just tell: screen recordings, product shots and clear captions do the job of a face.
- Compare honestly. Mention one real downside; it makes the recommendation believable.
- One product per video. Several links split attention.
- Use a clear call to action that matches where the link actually is.
- Disclose every time, in the video or caption, using the platform's tools where available.
- Keep it original. Platforms limit reposted and mass-produced content. Write your own scripts and review every video before it posts.
